Start Small

Jun 22, 2020

When I learned to Ballroom dance, my instructor told me that I had to start with the basics. The small lessons, and then build on that knowledge to eventually compete. Same with someone who learns baseball, Karate, Soccer, a new Language…When you’re learning something new, even leadership, you have to start small and work your way up to greatness. If you’ve never led before, focus on influencing one person. If you have influence with a few people, start by building a team. In John Maxwell’s book, The 360 Degree Leader, he quotes St. Francis of Assisi, “Start doing what is necessary; then do what is possible; and suddenly you are doing the impossible.”

This is how you learn to be a good leader. One step at a time. It’s true, some people have a natural talent at noticing human connection and then understanding how to lead them from there. But everyone is a leader in one way or another; it’s a natural human trait. Not just for some. Most people need to learn how to use these skills though, before becoming good leaders. If you hear someone say, “leaders are born, not made” it’s just an excuse to not learn how to be better. Because if I can learn, anyone can. Starting one step at a time.

My coaching program takes you through each of these steps. Simple, concise, and clear guidance. There is no guessing or hoping to become better. If you are open minded and willing to take the time to learn, you can become great! Ask about my new Public Speaking course today.
